I've discovered something over the last week. I have a caffeine addiction that I didn't have before.
I have been using Excedrin more often and drinking Coke more. What I discovered that as long as I had some form of caffeine, I could keep that aching nagging feeling in the back of my neck away. It's that feeling that if I don't do something about it soon, I know where this is headed. I used to take three Aleve or four Ibprofen. The Aleve would work and if I was closer to a migraine, I'd throw Benadryl in, but if I was too far into it, I'd need my Imitrex.
Well, as long as I can drink a 20 oz Coke or take one Excedrin, I don't need the Aleve. To be honest, the Ibprofen never did anything anyway.
I'm not sure if I should keep up the caffeine or not. I know in some people it can cause headaches too. Maybe soon my system will get used to it and it'll start causing them. But for many, a cup of coffee a day is just fine for them. I think I might try a half of an Excedrin and see what that does. I do get a tad jittery, but not enough to interfere with what I'm doing.
I'm sure as long as you're limiting your caffeine intake, it would be ok, since they aren't the cause of your migrines now. I dont think caffeine has any effect on my head either way. I drink a cup of Starbucks every morning and I used to take fioricet (which has caffeine in it). It doesn't make it worse, nor does it ever help!

Come to find out it may be more of a blood sugar thing. My new doctor told me to carry around a small sugar item that wasn't chocolate. He said jelly beans, I choose those fruit snacks my kids love. Have to hide them though. I especially noticed that nagging head feeling this morning when I didn't have anything sweet or carb like for breakfast. I think I'm ok with some caffine too just not too much. It's a balancing act!
ReplyDeleteCaffeine is a true migraine trigger for me. I noticed it like ten years ago. I was never a big soda person but I sure did love my chocolate. I saw a big chnage in my migraines once I gave it up. I did a test with myself and sure was right, I can't have anything with caffeine in it.
